Typhoon Ondoy is already out of the country, but we can still feel its presence. The debris of the tragedy is still visible. The water has not yet subsided as well as the atmosphere of worry and fear. We can move on but we cannot forget how Ondoy smashed our livelihood, home and lives.
The past few days have been difficult for all Filipino people. Everybody is affected, whether you are a victim or not. As a mere spectator of the tragedy, I always look at the positive side of the story. Although I can’t help it to react negatively everytime a dead body flashed on the TV screen, I am still always looking at the brightside. You might find it weird to find for the lighter side wherein everything seems to be a total chaos. The summary of the event maybe negative, but after I have reflected on what had happened, I was able to conclude that Ondoy really brings out the best of Pinoy. Here are some of Pinoy’s best qualities that came out during Typhoon Ondoy.
1. The Bayanihan Spirit is Still Alive
The willingness of the Filipino people to help those who are in needs is still alive. This is something that we should be proud of. Everybody is willing to help, whether a businessman, celebrity, politician or even a common citizen. The help overflow in form of cash, in kinds or volunteer service. All the while I thought that we have forgotten the Bayanihan Spirit. Typhoon Ondoy brought it back to the Filipino people.
2. Filipino Unity
We have been divided by politics, religions, races and even TV stations. Typhoon Ondoy reunited the Filipino people. We have been one in spirit and we have realized that we can only survive if we all stand as one.
3. Spiritually strong
One of the best traits of Filipino is being attached to God. We maybe physically, emotionally or mentally down, but our being spiritual is always strong. No matter what happen, our faith and belief with God is still essential. The flood of water has been counteracted by the flood of prayer. When was the last time the Filipino people prayed together? With typhoon Ondoy, we have once again proven that Filipino faith is the strongest ever.
