A Cry for Mindanao

I am a little bit anxious today. The thought of senseless killing in Maguindanao keeps haunting me. This is not because I am one of the victim nor any of my family members; it is because I am from Mindanao. And the recent killing at Maguindanao stained the beauty of this island. The thought of it gives me an urge to write something about it, not only for information purposes but also to shout out what my mind is telling regarding this untoward incident.
It happened in Maguindanao. According to the news, a group of people consisting of more or less 40 persons were on their way to Maguindanao Comelec office in Shariff Aguak. They will supposed to file a Certificate of Candidacy in behalf of Buluan, Maguindanao V ice Mayor Datu Ismail “Toto” Mangudadatu for 2010 governor’s race. At around 10:30 AM, while on their way to Shariff Aguak, they were abducted which results to the death of innocent women, lawyers and media professionals. Female victims had been sexually assaulted, the heads of some victims had been bashed and blood sheds everywhere. The vehicles had been burned and the rest of the victims had been shot and run over by the vehicles.
I can say that what had happened is gruesome, dreadful, and horrible. Knowing the fact that most of the victims are women and media professionals, this is so alarming. It is a call for everybody to become wary because we don’t know what will happen next in lieu of these killings. Be vigilant wherever you are in the country. This is not only for people here in Mindanao but also in the whole archipelago. Let’s continue to pray that justice will always prevail.

I am also from Mindanao and what happened pains me. It is very brutal. It should be condemned in the strongest terms. There is no excuse for the government not to go after those who have done this-even they are in the same political party. I hope and I pray for justice to be served to the martyrs.

I also lived in Davao, miles away from Maguindanao, but still it is very alarming because some of Ampatuan’s relatives lived here.
Pres. Arroyo, ikaw ang paglaum sa katawhan. Hinaut pa unta…
