Getting a Google Wave Account

googlewaveinterface

One of the hottest topics in social media networking such as twitter nowadays is all about the Google Wave. This new Google application has really made its wave in the internet trend. People are getting curious about this new application of internet giant. Google has been creating great features since then, from search engine to electronic mail to internet browser. No doubt that this new feature is a sure hit.

As a big fan of Google, I immediately signed up for a Google Wave account out of my curiosity of what this new application is all about. Unfortunately, this application is not yet open to the whole public. They have just selected few individuals to test the application. I am a little bit disappointed for not having my Google wave account but I have searched for different methods on how to secure a Google Wave account.

The first thing I did is sign up for a Google wave account. However, signing up to Google Wave cannot guarantee of securing an account. It is not actually a sign up form, it’s a request form wherein you are going to fill up. This request form contains questions that you are going to answer and a field wherein you are going to write to   the Wave Team explaining your reason of why you want to use Google wave. I filled up the form with all the necessary information and submit a “professional-looking” letter to the Wave Team. However, I got no response from them which means my request has not been approved.

I searched again for another method of getting a Google wave account. I found out that you can have a Google Wave account if you have an account of the developer Preview of the Wave. The purpose of the Developer Preview version is to test the application and report bugs, comments and any other suggestions to enhance the application. However, the developer Preview is only available for selected group of developers. And since I am not a developer, this option is not applicable to me.

Another way to get an account is to pay for Google Applications. If you are paying for existing Google Application, you will automatically get invite from Google to use this new tool without struggling to please them with a letter stating your reason why you want to use this application. Of course, I don’t want to pay for it so this option is not valid for me also.

I am a little bit frustrated to get an account but that doesn’t stop me. Just as I am about to surrender, the Google Wave Team announced the big revelation of getting an account. Here is Google’s explanation:

“We’ll ask some of these early users to nominate people they know also to receive early invitations — Google Wave is a lot more useful if your friends, family and colleagues have it too. This, of course, will just be the beginning. If all goes well we will soon be inviting many more to try out Google Wave.”

This statement from Google somehow brought hope for everybody including me to get an invite. The only thing I should do is to search for somebody who can nominate me. Good thing one of my “Plurk-friends” got an invite from Google Wave. So I asked her if she can refer me to somebody who has the capability to nominate for a Google Wave account. Fortunately, I found what I’ve been looking for. Somebody from plurk nominated me to Wave. It took almost a week before I was approved for an invite.

And now, I am happy waving. Although I am still figuring out how to use it, the thought that I am one of those few people using this application is already a fulfillment for me. The Wave Team allowed me to nominate 8 people to use the Google Wave. I have already given one slot to my colleague, so there are 7 more slot left. If you want to try this new application of Google, you can contact me or leave a comment on this post stating your interest to use Google Wave.
